Reid Vanderburgh

about me

I am a retired therapist living in Portland, Oregon. (If you are looking for a therapist to help explore the idea of transition, I have several names of people I can refer you to) I now focus on writing and teaching. I am on the board of PFLAG Portland and of our local GSA Youth Chorus. I also sing in the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, and in recent years have provided workshops for various GALA choruses re trans inclusivity. I teach Continuing Education classes (accredited by Portland State University) on issues pertaining to LGBTQ identity and issues around various aspects of the transition process. In addition to authoring two journal articles and numerous book chapters, I am the author of two books:

  • – Transition and Beyond: Observations on Gender Identity is intended to help trans people and those who love and serve them as they answer the question “How do I want to live my life?” in the context of gender identity.
  • – Journeys of Transformation: Stories from Across the Acronym is written to help bridge the gulf of understanding and support that currently divides L and G and B… etc. from being allies to each other. This book can also help straight cisgender allies better understand the lack of understanding they may witness.
